It was a freezing fall day here in Montreal on the day of Isabel and Andrew’s wedding. However, one look at the newly wed couple and everyone couldn’t help but feel a little warmer inside!

Isabel and Andrew’s wedding was our final wedding of the 2016 season, we couldn’t wait for their big day. The wedding ceremony and reception was at the Omni hotel on Sherbrooke Street downtown in Montreal and we took some lovely (albeit cold!) photos just down the street on McGill’s campus. With golden leaves and beautiful buildings, we had the perfect set for Isabel and Andrew’s photos! Like I said, even though it was cold and windy, everyone was a great sport and as I told them…it will be worth it!

We were very fortunate to have photographed wedding so many times at the Cumberland Heritage Museum this year. It’s a place that offers a big variety for photos, it’s got old buildings, fields and at this time the trees were spectacular too. Which is why we were really looking forward to Lisa and Sean’s wedding which was to take place in the super tiny but adorable steeple on the grounds!

It ended up being a beautiful day even though it drizzled a little bit. The steeple filled in with friends and family and before we knew it, Lisa was walking down the isle. It was very dark in there but we managed to make it work! We were not concerned by anything because Lisa’s smile brightened any potentially difficult photo opportunity and in turn also put a huge smile on Sean’s face. The reception was at the River Rock Inn in Rockland and it was a really awesome party. I don’t think we’ve seen so many tears of happiness from a bridal party!

Well, this winds down Bartek & Magda’s 2014 wedding season! It’s been an incredible blast working with fantastic couples and we can’t wait what 2015 will have to offer.

It’s always exciting when we hear that a couple will be getting married at a place that’s special for their family. Meghan and Steve did exactly that, and decided to get married in Magog where Meghan’s family has a beautiful waterfront property. It was the perfect place not only because of the water or the perfect forest but because they clearly felt in their element and at home! This serene nature setting was ideal for friends and family to take in the spirit of the day, relax, have fun and most of all celebrate Meghan and Steven’s wedding!

Meghan and Steven tied the knot and had the wedding reception at the beautiful Hermitage Club in Magog, Quebec.  The intimate ceremony was immediately followed by a delicious cocktail outside complete with freshly shucked oysters and other seafood. With a crowd like Meghan and Steve had, it was no wonder the night was fantastic. A teary flash mob song by the family, touching speeches and a lot of dancing finished off the perfect day!

Chantal and Marc chose the beautiful Cumberland Heritage Museum for their wedding just outside Ottawa, Ontario! Having photographed there before, we were very excited to go back and explore the farm to find spots we haven’t used before. On top of that, Chantal did everything herself in terms of decor and stationary! The popcorn at the cocktail, Chantal’s handmade rustic decorations, the photo booth with a super cool backdrop fit just perfectly with the farm setting.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day at the Cumberland museum and we had a blast shooting the wedding and enjoying the party! I can tell you there was a lot of laughter (especially due to the best man, Nick!), a few happy tears and an insane amount of off the hook dancing. Where do I start? Perhaps I should start back at in 2012, when Magda and I were down south partying our butts off with Marie and Alex and their whole family at Steve and Stephanie’s wedding! It was an incredible week where we got to meet a whole lot of amazing people, including Marie and Alex.

Full of smiles, generosity and a lot of love, we fell in love with them and hoped that one day we would see everyone again at their wedding. And guess what? We finally DID this year!

Because Marie and Alex are so awesome and are surrounded by a million family and friends, they chose to do two weddings. One day for the closest friends and cousins and the second day for the whole family. We were there for the first beautiful and crazy day at Marché Bonsecours! The Old Port, as usual, provided for some gorgeous scenery but Marie and Alex had to work it a bit due to the blazing sun and a ton of tourists. However, as we expected, they were smiles throughout it all and it really paid off.

The party was an absolute blast! Marie and Alex were brought to tears numerous times during heart felt speeches by their best friends and surprise songs. We also haven’t seen a bride and groom dominate the dance floor so well as they did…we were highly impressed…but not surprised after getting to know them down in the Dominican!

If there is one thing we can take away from spending time with Marie and Alex, their friends and family, is a genuine love for life! Magda and I were absolutely thrilled to be a part of this day and we cannot thank them enough. I don’t have to tell you that it’s clear you have an incredible future together based on what we’ve seen so with that, we leave you with a slideshow and a few of our favourite images. Life has an amazing way of surprising you in may different ways. One of those ways is it’s incredible ability to reunite you with people from your past, even from a life you lived on the other side of the planet many years ago! This is exactly what happened between Ewelina and her family, and us.

I (Bartek) met Ewelina with her parents way back when in Germany after both our families moved from Poland. We grew up together for a few years playing outdoors with all the kids in our building! After some time, our families parted ways and we lost touch. Fast forward many years later and our families are now living 8 hours apart in Canada! Fast forward even more years and Ewelina is engaged to a wonderful guy named Erik, and both Magda and I are photographing their wedding in London, Ontario! I remember having my mind blown on the dance floor when Magda, Klementine ( our daughter) myself, Ewelina, my mom and her’s all holding hands dancing in a circle enjoying themselves. As I said at the start, it’s amazing how things like this can happen and you honestly never know what life may throw at you and who you will reunite with tomorrow. Onto the wedding!

Ewelina and Erik invited us down to London, Ontario to spend time with their families and of course photograph their special day. They were married by a Polish priest whom Ewelina had asked to marry her when she was just a little girl! And as the maid of honour announced that she is actually standing in for the real maid of honour, Ewelina’s much loved sister Camila who couldn’t be there that day, we all choked back tears. It was a beautiful sunny day with a lot of laughs at the photo booth and an incredible amount of dancing.

Both Magda and I were incredibly touched for many, many reasons. Some of which include being asked to be the photographers for the day but also guests, so we were able to bring Klementine down with us for the festivities, and finally that we were able to reunite with old friends who now feel like family. Ewelina and Erik, thank you for having us in London for that fantastic weekend! We wish you the best life has to offer and we leave you with some of our favourite images of the day below. It feels like we’ve known Genvieve and Vincent for years. In fact, I think we actually have known them for a long time since they found and booked us right after seeing our work from Roxane and Alexis’ wedding! Since then, Magda has been in touch with Genvieve over the phone, by email and even in person to chat about her special day and plan it all out. So when it came time to pack up on Saturday and head out to capture Genvieve and Vincent’s day, it felt as though we were photographing a friend’s wedding!

The weather outside St. Joachim’s church was absolutely gorgeous. Equally as gorgeous was the ceremony happening inside where Vincent stunned everyone by singing an opera classic to his new wife! Magda and I nearly forgot to take photos it was so beautiful and touching. After that we headed to Chateau Vaudreuil for the very happy and emotional reception. Everyone tore up the dance floor with games, dancing, sing-offs and Genvieve’s dad made a really sweet backdrop for the photobooth just for the day.

Genvieve and Vincent…thank you for choosing us to capture your wedding day. We can see how strong your bond is and wish you the best life has to offer. In the summer we had the pleasure of taking Tara and Jon (or as they call each other Pot and lid, because Tara is the Lid to Jon’s Pot!!! Adorableness overload!), for a pre-wedding photo shoot out on a farm here in Montreal. It was a fabulous time for the four of us to get to know each other and take some casual photos for them. Essentially it was a teaser for us for what was to come, and we couldn’t wait to spend time with them on the big day! Every time we got together with them it’s hard not to notice how much Jon cares for Tara and vice versa. Tara and Jon are a one of a kind couple; extremely determined to make their wedding exactly as they imagined, not only for themselves but for all their family and guests. Seeing as this was our first Jewish wedding, we had our work cut out for us!

Magda and I were super excited to finally get to experience a full on Jewish wedding after hearing about how wonderful these ceremonies are. From the traditions to the customs and dances, we loved taking photos of every moment! The wedding took place at Montreal’s Jewish Synagogue Chevra Kadisha where we witnessed Tara and Jon become a couple under the Chuppah. It was very obvious that Tara and Jon’s families are incredibly close and caring. We routinely had tears in our eyes as we listened to all the beautiful wishes and stories everyone shared at the wedding, including the wonderful things the Rabbi had to say throughout the day.

On to the party.

Helmed by the amazing Showmen Band, the reception was a a collection of touching speeches, music, dancing and lots of people being raised into the air on chairs! We can safely say that Tara and Jon created an incredible experience for everyone on their wedding day…including us. So on that note, we would like to thank you for trusting us with our vision to capture every special moment on this once in a lifetime day. We had an absolute blast and if your parents are a testament to a lifetime of happiness…then you have nothing to worry about.

With Lukasz’s family being from Poland and Justine’s from Quebec, they really wanted to give their guests a feel of this part of Canada. After looking at options for their wedding in the Laurentians they came upon the Esterel Spa & Suites resort. We have never heard of this place till now but after driving up there and spending the weekend with Justine and Lukasz it quickly became apparent why they chose it. The drive from Montreal alone was beautiful, with winding roads and hills and of course the resort itself. Placed right on a serene lake, surrounded by nature and offering luxurious comfort and food. It was perfect! Every single one of their guests absolutely loved it.

As opposed to most wedding days for us, this one was exceptionally relaxing! Even with the imminent rain everyone still had smiles and no one fretted about anything. This made for a perfect environment for Magda and I to capture some really nice moments with Justine and Lukasz. The food was to die for and the party, as we expected, was off the hook! Complete with a traditional Polish bread and salt greeting by the parents of the groom, a bottle of Wyborowa vodka on every table and our photo booth, the pictures we took tell the complete story below…

We know how difficult it is planning a long distance wedding, so on top of that we would like to thank Justine and Lukasz for taking us along for the ride! We wish them lots of love and happiness and we leave you with a summary of the day below.

You see, Brenda and her family are Vietnamese. Mike is Polish and is in the Canadian Army Reserves. So naturally we have a really cool mix of photos in today’s wedding blog post!

When people say it’s a small world when they run into people, I can confirm that it really is. Although our line of work heavily relies on word of mouth, it really is amazing when we run into people we know such as during Brenda and Mike’s wedding. The wedding being in Ottawa and half Polish meant that we saw a lot of familiar faces which always makes it really fun while working throughout the day!

Onto the wedding details.

We have shot a few Vietnamese weddings and we always look forward to doing more! All ethnic weddings add a little something different to the wedding day. In the morning, at the bride’s house, there is always a traditional tea ceremony which is actually the spiritual wedding! It’s really touching to see the father of the bride warmly invite all the family and guests with open arms into his home and pay homage to all the ancestors. Not to mention the vibrant colors that are worn and decorate the home too.

The ceremony took place at the Army Officer’s Mess on Elgin Street in Ottawa which was followed by the really fun party, to which Brenda and Mike added our photo booth…and boy did they make the right decision! As soon as we saw the rubber unicorn mask, we know it was going to be a good night. We were so thankful that the weather cleared up for at least a half hour, so we had time to take some bright and happy photos near the Ottawa canal with Brenda and Mike in the natural light! But we couldn’t have done it without their obvious connection with each other.

Brenda and Mike, we sincerely wish you a fantastic life together and many happy memories. Thank you for inviting us to capture your special day and seeing you so in love makes us want to do this job even more than we already do.
