July 10, 2004 was the day Magda and I had chosen to have our own wedding 6 years ago, but for a few reasons we had to switch the date. Since we always leave our anniversary weekend free, we would have not been able to shoot Melissa & Ben’s wedding if our date hadn’t changed… which would have totally been a shame because we love all our brides and we hate turning anyone down!!
What’s with this crazy rain these days? They’re forecasting rain all the time and in turn stressing out our brides! Stop it weather people!!! Especially since most of the time you’re wrong! HA! ;) Even though we don’t generally care if it rains on the wedding day (unless there’s a epic-tropical-tornado-hurricane storm of course) we reassured Melissa it would be juuust fine…and it was! The day was mostly cloudy which is perfect for photos, and ended with some sun poking out at the end for some backlit images…which we loooove. Oh and Melissa and Ben decided to have their photoshoot before the ceremony which is always a treat because we find that generally couples are a little more relaxed than after the big moment! And the makeup is fresh too! Bonus! :)
The reception was held at the Canadian Museum of Civilisation and it was just adorable. With both Melissa and Ben being grade school teachers and with both of them not being too fond of the regular wedding speeches, they had asked everyone to bring their favourite children’s book or poem and read that instead! Everyone at the party loved the idea! And they closed it off by reading a rhyming poem that Melissa and Ben took turns reading, it was a very original way to say a speech, and we absolutely adored it.
We had a blast photographing you two and we wish you the best on your new journey!
