Caeli + Aaron | A Rustic Wedding in Beautiful Vermont

Planning a destination wedding is one thing, as most of the sunny locations are well equipped for these types of scenarios. Planning a weekend getaway wedding in Vermont taking place over 3,000 miles away from where you live is a completely different beast!

After getting to know Caeli and Aaron better it was quite apparent that if any couple could pull something like this off, it would be them. Having an incredible drive, passion and heart, these two put an insane amount of work and logistics into this weekend. They picked the Common Ground Center in Vermont for the location of their weekend wedding as it was a neutral location for all their family and friends to travel to, but also because it reflected the down to earth and natural people they are.

Caeli and Aaron both met in Africa believe it or not, when fate brought them together through their common work…the Boys and Girls Club of America. We just want to mention how seriously impressed and touched we are at the work both Caeli and Aaron do for the youth in America. It really takes a special person to dedicate their life to helping kids in need, and these newlyweds have an enormous heart. It was quite fitting that there were a lot of adorable little humans at this wedding. So! Many trips around the world and many dates later…here we are today…Caeli and Aaron created an incredible weekend for all their guests. Starting off with an outdoor oven pizza party the night before, games, campfires, lots Blackberry Wheat Ale (!), a ton of great food (they served Salmon that Aaron caught himself from Alaska!), dancing and many happy tears.

It’s tough to put into words how we, as wedding photographers, and now as their friends, feel about spending the weekend photographing something like this. You really have to experience it yourself. The nature, the warmth and happy people around you and the cabins in the woods.

With that being said, I would like to thank Caeli and Aaron for seeking us out and bring us down to capture this special weekend for them! We wish you both even more love and happiness together if that’s even possible. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy the following summary from the weekend as much as we did photographing it. As usual, click play on the button below to view a lot more photos from the wedding day, as well as the other events.

Matt + Suzie | A casual lifestyle photo session in Montreal

It’s not every day a photographer gets to photograph another photographer. So naturally when we were contacted by Quebec City wedding photographers Matt and Suzie to take some updated photos for their rebranding of their studio, we were very excited at the challenge!

Even though I really don’t like using the word “style”, every photographer has a certain look they are going for in their work. It’s very refreshing when we work with a couple who hires us to do exactly what we do and exactly how we do it. They just trust us. We shoot very playful, colorful, natural and happy images of people together showcasing their personalities and that is exactly what Matt and Suzie wanted!

It didn’t take very long for the four of us to unwind and start to get into it. Shooting on location with people you only know a little bit can be a bit daunting, but we take this dynamic atmosphere and turn it into a very energetic and fun experience! Matt and Suzie, thank you for trusting us with our vision, we had a great time working with you and getting to know you! We cannot wait to see these images on your website, but for now, here are our favourites from the shoot.

Brenda + Mike | an Army Officer’s Mess wedding in Ottawa…

…with a traditional Vietnamese twist!

You see, Brenda and her family are Vietnamese. Mike is Polish and is in the Canadian Army Reserves. So naturally we have a really cool mix of photos in today’s wedding blog post!

When people say it’s a small world when they run into people, I can confirm that it really is. Although our line of work heavily relies on word of mouth, it really is amazing when we run into people we know such as during Brenda and Mike’s wedding. The wedding being in Ottawa and half Polish meant that we saw a lot of familiar faces which always makes it really fun while working throughout the day!

Onto the wedding details.

We have shot a few Vietnamese weddings and we always look forward to doing more! All ethnic weddings add a little something different to the wedding day. In the morning, at the bride’s house, there is always a traditional tea ceremony which is actually the spiritual wedding! It’s really touching to see the father of the bride warmly invite all the family and guests with open arms into his home and pay homage to all the ancestors. Not to mention the vibrant colors that are worn and decorate the home too.

The ceremony took place at the Army Officer’s Mess on Elgin Street in Ottawa which was followed by the really fun party, to which Brenda and Mike added our photo booth…and boy did they make the right decision! As soon as we saw the rubber unicorn mask, we know it was going to be a good night. We were so thankful that the weather cleared up for at least a half hour, so we had time to take some bright and happy photos near the Ottawa canal with Brenda and Mike in the natural light! But we couldn’t have done it without their obvious connection with each other.

Brenda and Mike, we sincerely wish you a fantastic life together and many happy memories. Thank you for inviting us to capture your special day and seeing you so in love makes us want to do this job even more than we already do. We hope you enjoy these favourite moments of ours from your day…  And then scroll back up and click play on the slideshow just below.

Meaghan + Martin | a farm themed wedding at the Cumberland Museum

Last post I talked about how it’s a special pleasure when we get a chance to work with some people we have known from our past and today’s wedding also includes someone special to me (Bartek)!

I have known Martin for quite some time. Even though we have parted our separate ways since high school, I still have fond memories of messing around in Mrs. Chiarelli’s algebra class, hitting up Broadway’s Bar and Grill for breakfast (mmm, the homefries…) before heading back to St. Pius X and most importantly playing together on stage in our high school band together.

Naturally, we couldn’t wait to Meaghan and Martin’s wedding to come. Not having met Meaghan before we were quite anxious to get to know her, but knowing how kind and down to earth Martin is we had no doubt that she would be very similar. We were right! Meaghan is one of the sweetest girls we have recently met and she and Martin did everything they could so that we would have the best possible experience working with them.

She and Martin planned a very farm/barn themed wedding which they fittingly had at the Cumberland Heritage Museum east of Ottawa. The location was just perfect. A huge piece of land complete with heritage museum homes fitted with original decor, farm animals, fields, tractors and more. Meaghan compiled a beautiful collection of inspiration on her pinterest page and came up with her very own gorgeous look to their wedding! Baby’s breath bouquets, a handmade photo booth backdrop, beautiful billy balls decorating every table under a wooden outdoor reception area.

If the wedding is anything like their future life has to offer then they have nothing but joy, love and lots of family memories to look forward to. Thank you two from the bottom of our hearts for taking us along to photograph your wedding day! We leave you with our favourite photos from the day and of course don’t forget to check out hundreds more in the slideshow below.  Oh and Meaghan, thank you for my cup, i drink out of it every day since the wedding. ( Magda)

xoxo,
Bartek & Magda

Diana + Wojtek | An Old Port Engagement session in Montreal

We have known Diana for a long time. When Magda and I used to live in Ottawa when we were in our teens, we hung out within the Polish community and so did Diana and her sister! Many years went by and you can imagine how exciting it was for us to get a phone call from Diana! She was officially engaged and she and Wojtek wanted us to fly down to Waterloo to shoot their wedding.

Photographing and being a part of a Polish wedding and ceremony is always special to us, especially when it’s with people we know! I will save all the talk for when the wedding post comes so we will leave you with a series of photos we had the pleasure of taking with Diana and Wojtek. They came here to Montreal and we took them down to the classic Old Port to have their pre-wedding photos taken. Since the Old Port is used so frequently by photographers, we always strive to push ourselves and find new and interesting areas and angles to shoot with. That, combined with Diana and Wojtek’s willingness to do whatever we suggested (not to mention how cute they are together!) we are very happy with the result.

Enjoy and you will see these two again when we return from Waterloo. We can’t wait!
